Did Japan become such a prosperous, advanced society due to a lack of military spending?

Yes I agree, after world war two, Japan's military spending was limited to one percent of their national gross product. I remember reading somewhere that just 10% of u.s. military spending per year, would be enough to feed every person on the planet for a year. I do not know about you, but I find that disgusting. Just one more reason for me, and billions of others to despise america.
