Meteorite or a rock please answer it. im confuse?

please help me! my father just went to antartica with a lot of scientist then he found strange looking rock and then he talk give it to one of the geologist .then the geologist said it was a meteorite then he brought it back home.i'm confuse it look likes a rock? how to know it is a meteor please
